Water Meter Leaks: Who’s Responsible?

If you suspect a water leak near your meter, follow these steps to determine who is responsible:

Step-by-Step Leak Check

 1)  Shut Off All Water

Turn off all water sources inside and outside your home (faucets, irrigation, appliances, etc.).

 2)  Find Your Water Meter

Locate the meter box—usually a concrete box near the curb or sidewalk. Carefully lift the lid.

 3)  Check the Leak Indicator

Look for a small dial or triangle on the meter (the leak indicator).

  •  If it’s spinning or moving, water is flowing through the meter.

Who Handles the Leak?

  • From the meter to the street: This is the City of Goodyear’s responsibility.

Report it to the Water Services Department HERE.

  • From the meter to your home: This is the property owner's responsibility.
