Hydrant FAQs

Hydrant Locations

The city of Goodyear maintains hydrants for fire suppression for residents within the city limits. Additionally, Liberty, EPCOR, and AZ West maintain hydrants for customer areas they support within the city.

The city provides verification for hydrant locations for residents within the city limits.  When a request for hydrant location for insurance purposes is submitted, the city will respond and provide confirmation of whether a hydrant is within the specified distance of the insured property.  County island residents are not officially covered by these hydrants for the purposes of their insurance. Residents supported by Liberty, EPCOR or AZ West will need to contact those entities for verification of those hydrant locations. Click the linked map above for how to contact those providers.

Hydrant Colors

Color-coded hydrants easily identify the water and purpose for those assets. Yellow hydrants are maintained by the city for fire suppression and water maintenance. Purple hydrants are treated water available for limited purposes. Red hydrants are maintained by private commercial property owners.

Other providers like EPCOR, Liberty, and AZ West have additional color codes for their hydrants:

Liberty and EPCOR color their nozzle caps based on flow capacity:

  • Red: Water flow under 500 gallons per minute (GPM).
  • Orange: Water flow between 500 and 1000 GPM
  • Green: Water flow between 1000 and 1500 GPM
  • Blue: Water flow exceeding 1500 GPM
